About Us
Who we are
The Coalescence Theatre Project, located in Bloomington Illinois, exists to incite our community to thoughtful action. Our logo, an abstract representation of the genetic tree of life, reminds us that we all come from one common Ancestor. We focus on unheard stories and offer a place where the silent and the underrepresented have a voice. We aspire to be a home where play, discovery, and learning are celebrated and our audience reflects all of the people we serve. Coalescence Theatre Project is committed to new and established playwrights whose works represent our mission. Our commitment is to produce only plays by LGBTQIA+, BIPOC – the global majority, and women playwrights.
Indigenous Land Acknowledgement
Coalescence Theatre Project would like to take a moment to acknowledge that the land colonially called Bloomington, Illinois in McLean County is the ancestral land of many native groups, beginning with the Paleoindians 12,000 years ago, and most recently Algonquin-speaking groups including the Kickapoo, who were forced west from this area in the 1830s.
This statement was created by the McLean County Museum of History, Nichole Boyd, Director of the Native American House at UIUC, and Lester Randall, Tribal Chairman of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas.
Digital Acknowledgement
We also invite you to take a moment to acknowledge the original caretakers of the land upon which you reside if it is different from this website area. Let us also take a moment to consider the legacy of colonization and privilege embedded in access to technology. The equipment and high-speed internet we are using are not available in many indigenous and rural communities.
Digital acknowledgment is written for Coalescence Theatre Project by Ann-Marie Dittman
