Requiem for a Brother
“Congratulations on Requiem for a Brother. I found it compelling—and disturbing. The script, actors, and graphic imagery were excellent.”

About the show
Coalescence Theatre Project is proud to present a live-streamed workshop reading of "Requiem For A Brother" by Kim Pereira. "Requiem For A Brother" is an adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone set in 2019 America. This modernized take on the ancient Greek tragedy centers on a family of Muslim-American siblings who are placed at the center of a political firestorm. Nazneen, a young activist, wants to bring her brother Nabil’s body home for a proper burial. However, the Governor believes that the groups helping Nazneen are domestic terrorists. Urged by his conservative supporters, he obstructs her plans. Yet Nazneen is unperturbed, demanding that she and her brother receive the treatment they deserve—as American citizens.
The play pursues questions of identity and citizenship, racism, xenophobia, and the crumbling democracy in America as extremism takes over. At heart, the play is about a sister’s love for her brother in her single-minded pursuit of justice.
Directed by Paul Christopher with Kee-Yoon Nahm as Dramaturg, "Requiem For A Brother," features a talented cast that includes Katharyn D. Brown, Ben Davis, Shahrzad Hamzeh, Leen Harazallah, Elaine Hill, Robert Quinlan, Jeff Ready, Aiszah Maria Rangel, Matt Tenny, and Zenon Zamora.
